Whether you drive up on your own, or you experience the park through a myriad of downhill bike rides, land tours, hiking trips or horseback rides, Haleakala National Park is an impressive site to see. Many visitors – particularly those with your children, go simply for the sunrise or the sunset (and the decidedly chilly air that accompanies them) Families with older children should consider a hike or a horseback ride into the crater.
NOTE: This used to be free, but the park service recently added a small entry fee. There are occasional days when they DO open the park for free, so be sure to check their website.
