The Hawai’i Nature Center provides school programs for local (Kamaaina) students, intercession day camps, and nature education programs for families and adults. Exploring is free
Their easy, 1-hour nature hike through Iao Valley (fee-based, with a guide) is quite lovely and informative, but you can also pick up a free walking map and venture out on your own. The hike is recommended for families with children 5 and over. For a free activity the hike is definitely worth a visit. Mosquito repellent is a good idea.
Their indoor displays have a reputation for being less than enthralling, particularly for older children. but the youngest may find them of interest.
